Fun is a fact with:

Movies premiere dates changed!

August 20th, 2008 Marissa Posted in Den, Movie Treats, Novels | No Comments »

I’ve blogged about the two movies that are supposed to premiere in the cinemas at the end of the year, which are:

Twilight

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance.

Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands – and he hasn’t aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he’s immortal. But he doesn’t have fangs, and he doesn’t drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for –a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when James, Laurent and Victoria, the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?”

Harry Potter & the Half-blood Prince

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information.

Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn’t counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simmering with jealousy but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

However, i received news that the dates have been changed. (okay, it’s old news by now, but i still feel that i should tell you about it!)

So what’s the story, morning glory?

Apparently, the 6th installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter & the Half-blood Prince, which was scheduled to premiere this November 21st will be pushed back ’til Summer of 2009. According to reports in MTV UK website, Warner Bros. said it made the change to improve its release schedule for the summer market and that the recent writers’ strike had “impacted the readiness of scripts for other films”. Well, that’s too bad for those who are anticipating that Potter movie this year! Since we’ve got the book to occupy ourselves with while waiting for the film premiere, i reckon there’s no problem with waiting for another additional 6 months! So be patient, my dear muggles!

As for Twilight, good news! Due to Harry Potter & the Half-blood Prince bumping out to the following Summer of 2009, the highly anticipated movie based on Stephanie Meyer’s gripping vampire love saga series, Twilight, got bumped up a couple of weeks from December 12th to November 21st according to MTV Asia website. Yippeee~! I seriously can’t wait for this one! I just got hold of the paperback version of 3rd book, “Eclipse” quite a while back and finish reading it in like, 2 days - in-between work, anime marathons & gaming. No doubt, the story got more and more intense as it now a bitter love rivalry between Bella’s werewolf best friend, Jacob and her vampire soulmate, Edward. Ooohh, I just lurrvee dramas!

Okay, dramas aside. Remember to reshuffle those dates in the calender, y’all. And don’t miss those movie premieres!

Dance Away with Highstreet5!

August 15th, 2008 Marissa Posted in Gaming Room, MMORPG | 1 Comment »

During the PIKOM PC Fair in Kota Kinabalu over the weekend, i bumped into a friend who is there to promote Highstreet5 and managed to snag an MetroCity version installation CD after filling up a registration form. All i need to do is answer a few simple questions on it and i may stand a chance to win an Samsung MP3 player! No fancy slogans, no nothing. Who knows, maybe i might have the winning entry! Ohohoho~!

What is Highstreet5 ?
Well, i was as clueless as you are. Here’s an excerpt from the official website:

Someone once said that dancing is like dreaming with your feet… and in HighStreet5 there are only dreamers. HighStreet 5 is an online dance game where thousands of players can mingle with each other in a world of friends, fashion and dance.

In other words, Highstreet5 is quite similar to other dancing games out there like AuditionSEA, and Dance! Online. The only difference is the character design and the songs offered. In AuditionSEA, the characters has a cuter, anime-influenced feature that would appeal to most young people. While Dance! Online has a more refined Barbie doll-like features. As for Highstreet5, its characters has a more realistic-like features like proportionate height, body size, movement and facial expressions.

The all new Metrocity version of HighStreet5 has a few new features and additions like:

[Virtual Dance City]
Now players can roam the virtual metropolis with towering skyscrapers and distinctive landmark buildings along with other players. You can go shopping in the mall together with friends, go to the salon for a makeover, stock up on items together at the store, or just meet up somewhere in city square before heading out to your favorite dance hall hangout! Not only that, but you can also click on any player to look at their community profiles and personal photos by using the new in-game community system!

Behind me: The city center of Metrocity

[In-game Community System]
Do you know that HighStreet5 has the world’s first in-game community system for an online dance game? Yes! This in-game community system works like Facebook or Friendster! You can edit and customize your profile, upload pictures and even start a blog! Don’t you just love that?

[New Costumes]
I just love the amount of clothes choices they have in the mall! There’s so many real-life inspired contemporary fashion wardrobe of dresses, shirts, accesories, and many more to choose from and it’s all at an affordable in-game currency price! Raise your points by dancing, then you can go for a shopping spree! There are cosplay suits, punk sets, hip-hop sets, school uniforms and loads more! You even can try out the clothes and accessories before you buy! Check out my printscreen-whoring session below!

Chun Li cosplay. Check out the rest of the suits!

Sexy maid uniform! Nana cosplay! And even a Punk outfit with a pair of devil wings!

[New songs!]
In this version, they have added popular new songs like 4 In The Morning (Gwen Stefani), Glamorous (Fergie), Lips of an Angel (Hinder), With You (Rain), Smack That (Akon), Hate That I Love You (Rihanna), Pagi Yang Gelap (Hujan), Honey Honey Honey (Elva), Stop & Stare (One Republic) and many more! There’s so much to choose! So check out the different dancehalls, then try and see if you are able to keep up with dancing to so many famous hits!

[New Dance Modes]
[Daily Tasks & Missions]

- and many more!

For more detail on what’s new in the Metrocity version , check out it out here.

There’s even a KLCC building dance hall in the game!

How to Play

Dancing in HighStreet5 consists of pressing directional keys and then pressing Space Bar at the appropriate time. You can also use special items and perform stunts during a dance by pressing the numerical key assigned to the particular item or stunt.

There are three modes of dance; Single (one person), Lovers (two persons) or Group (up to five persons). Every completed dance will earn you Scores; and the better your dance, the higher your points.

Firstly, get yourself into a dance hall of you choice and click on the DANCE button on the topright of your screen and select your options: whether if you’re going to start a Single Dance Mode, Lover’s Dance Mode, Battle Dance Mode, or Group Dance Mode.

Let’s select Single Dance Mode for practice purposes. If you are a beginner, choose EASY -> 4-keys (basic) , or else you’ll end up hitting more keys than you can handle with the 8-keys option. Then select your song mode.

After selecting your preferred dancing mode, click on Start Dancing.

Common Mode: choosing this will make your character dance out the common dance steps, plus what you have chosen as Favorite moves from your HOME (yes, every character in HighStreet 5 has their own personal bedroom! - and no, you can’t invite anyone in. lolx!). So if you wanna strut out those awesome moves (there’s a long list of dance sequence you can choose from), practice, practice, practice! Once you’ve mastered that, and the song you are dancing to suits those steps, when you’ll be the star of the dance floor!

Song Mode: This is my favorite mode. This will enable your character to perform the appropriate dance steps that will match the song that is being played. With this, anyone in the room who has selected this option will strut out the similar dance moves. This is the best time to record a music video with dozens of people dancing in sync together!

Free Steps Mode: This expert option lets the player to freely strut out any moves by just hitting a few keys in the beginning and completing the remaining length of them quickly in order to score. The steps for this mode would usually begin with 5-step and 6-step dance moves. Following that, you can continue on to 6-step, or even 9-step dance moves! Gee, that’s hard! This mode also allows a fantastic performance with great creativity. But so far, there are no points given for Free Steps dancing.

Get in detail about How-To-Dance by following this link!

Key in the pattern according to the direction key shown, then press Space Bar when beat counter (the round ball thing on the bar) move into the blue and white flash zone

My fave hangout: Ginza. The more you scored PERFECT, the faster you level up!

Once your Vitality hits maximum, you can perform stunts by clicking on the hotkey button

My Review:

This is my first time playing a dance-related online game, and i must say that i quite enjoyed the experience. Mostly because of the wonderful music selections they broadcast. It’s all the latest songs which i know and liked. There are English hits, Chinese hits, Korean hits, and even Malay hits! But however, i’m just a little disappointed that they never brought in any Japanese songs. If there are any, i have yet to find them! :( I demand for my favourite Japanese hits to be available at Ginza! Hahaha! Ah, one more thing. If you have enough points available, you can even request for your favorite songs from the DJ spinning the hits in your favorite Dance Hall; complete with a message dedication! If you virtual wallet permits it, you can also freely change your clothes according to your mood. Each clothing and accessory items will expire after 7 days, so you gotta dance more to get points to spend at the Mall if you don’t want to become unfashionable! Logging in daily between certain hours also will earn you mystery gifts boxes which will give u a pleasant surprise of random items ranging from clothes, pants, accessories, power food, and many more! What can i say? I love freebies!

If you like music related games like O2Jam or AuditionSEA, you must give this game a try!

And who says you need to go Paris to see the Eiffel Tower? XD

To download Highstreet5, head on to their official website: http://www.highstreet5.com.my, or simply request them to send you an installation CD for free!
