Inverloch: A Fantasy Webcomic

July 18th, 2008 Rina Cat Posted in Illustrations/Comics, Introduction | 1 Comment »

Usually, webcomics are comics that you can read online (and usually free). But it doesn’t mean that all of them were done in comic strips form (like you see in newspapers). Some of them has their stories completed just like reading a complete set of books which you can find them online (if you know where to look, of course).

So, I’d like to share one of my favourite webcomics that has their story complete and ready to be read online. If you’re into fantasy genre story like Lord of the Rings (but less graphic violence), then I highly recommend reading this comic.

Introducing Inverloch by Sarah Ellerton from Australia.

Click this banner to visit the website.

Inverloch was first started in June 2004 and it’s completed sometime in mid 2007. In the past, I always check the website for new pages to follow the story. But now, you can read the entire story online!

The Summary:

Inverloch tells a story of a sweet young Da’kor (a wolf-like creature with horns) named Archeron. One day, he met a beautiful elf named Shiara in the woods and forms a very unlikely friendship with her. This bond of friendship is consider a risk because in their world, Da’kors, Elves and Humans don’t get along very well. Especially when the outside world thought all Da’kors are nothing but a bunch of vicious and ruthless beasts. Though they still managed to maintain the peace in their surroundings.

Archeron’s introduction from page 9, chapter 1.

Shiara told Archeron about her childhood friend, Kayn’dar, another elf that she loved dearly, has been missing for twelve years but still believed that he’s still alive somewhere. Archeron asked her if she ever try searching for him. She told him that her people won’t let her leave for such things and they had given up on him. Because Archeron has recently falling for his elf friend, he vowed to her that he will find him and bring him back to her.

And so Archeron’s adventures begins here.

During his search for informations of Kayn’dar, he met new friends along the way. With Lei’ella, a Severed Elf (learn more about this race by reading the comics) and a thief-catcher; Varden, a human thief and a young female mage named Neirenn to help Archeron in his quest for Kayn’dar, Archeron will soon learn that his little quest is not as innocent as finding a missing person. And the world was not as peaceful as he believed it to be, embroiled in prejudice, hidden danger, and unexpected mystery.

Archeron and his new companions, Lei’ella, Varden and Neirenn from page 309, chapter 10.

Currently, two volumes of Inverloch graphic novels have been printed and published by Seven Seas Entertainment and it’s available for purchase in Amazon.

Inverloch Volume 2 graphic novel’s front cover

You’re probably wondering why would anyone want to buy them when you can just read them online (for free!), right? Well, other than the fact that some people prefer to have them in printed format and its high definition printed quality, some of the pages have been redrawn and can only be seen when you buy the book version.

Remember, this comic started in 2004 and concluded sometime in 2007. So the drawing style has changed and improved in the process. Go read the comics now by clicking on the banner below!

Mark: Why am I holding a very big spanner in that pic?…

Rina: No reason really. Just an excuse for you to sit down because it’s weighing you down.

Feature Artist: Amber Hon

July 7th, 2008 Rina Cat Posted in Illustrations/Comics, Introduction | 7 Comments »

Today is GoLife’s Birthday!~~~

But that’s not what this post is about.

Today, I’d like to introduce you an artistic friend of mine…

Amber Hon (also known as Kanariya)

I first met her last year during our first artists meeting in KK. It was quite an honor to finally meet one of the regular and experienced doujinshi (Japanese term for fan comics) artists from Malaysia.

Some of you might have heard of or familiar with her pen name, Kanariya or at least familiar with her works. If you did, then you might have seen some of her comics and illustration books sold during the Comic Fiesta conventions. She’s also into cosplaying and lolita dresses.

Like most girls, Amber also has interest in collecting dolls. But we’re not talking about any typical dolls like Barbie dolls. We’re talking about the customizing ones, not just plain dress-ups.

Just take a look at some of her collections:

The scale of these dolls is 1/6.

Rina: Such pretty eyes~

To see more of her dolls’ photos, visit Amber’s blog.

Amber has an online gallery where you view most of her illustrative works. They can be found at her deviantArt page.

Below are some of her magnificent works.

“Elise in Love”

“Tiara & Rhialyn”

“Flowery Shounen”

Below you can see how her comic works were made.

First step: Sketching

Second step: Inking

Final step: Add screentone & text

That’s all for today’s entry. Until then, adieu~
